The big "birthday day" has now come and gone. Our guys did a mighty fine job of planning and executing an entire day of fun for their gals. Previously we (Karen and I) were told that the day would officially begin around noon, coincidentally right around the time Karen was able to secure childcare for the 4 (darn cute) rug-rats who would not be accompanying us. However, Friday night RW informed me that I needed to be ready by 7:45a.
ME: "What? On a Saturday morning? What's even open at that time of day?"
RW: "Be ready. I'm picking up Karen at 7:30, and I'll be back to get you."
Ooookay then...
Saturday morning RDub was up bright and early. I wandered out of the bedroom, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, and blinked a few times in confusion. RW was ironing pants. Good pants. On a Saturday.
ME: "Ummmm... Am I supposed to be dressing up for this?"
RW: "Do whatever you think is right."
ME: "But you're the one who knows what we are doing. You'll have to tell me."
RW: [smirking] "Whatever you think, Babe."
And it went round and round and round for several more minutes, me - trying to get basic wardrobe information, him brushing me off, not willing to give me any clues to what the day may bring.
After picking up Karen, RW was back at the house promptly at 7:45, and I jumped in the car. As he pulled out of the driveway, I noticed "Street Closed/5K Run today", I had a momentary feeling of horror that Nathan and RDub actually signed us up for a 5K. They would think that was pretty funny. I bet now, as they are reading this, they are actually wondering why they didn't think of it themselves. Whew. Thank goodness they didn't. Granted, I'm all about starting the next decade of my life on a healthy note and everything, but seeing as I have 21 days before that next decade actually begins, I wasn't craving a 5K at 8a on Saturday.
Thankfully RW drove right on past that 5K, and we settled ourselves into the car for the next 1/2 hour. This is about the time that Karen let it slip to RW that Nathan thought "his part of the day was better than RW's part of the day."
RW: "WHAT? What's this about 'parts'? WE planned this TOGETHER!"
KAREN: "Well, do you guys have evaluation forms for us to fill out at the end of the day? That way you'd for sure know what we liked."
ME: "Good idea. I like it."
This conversation wasn't really going in the direction that RW wished it to be going, so it was none too soon that we pulled up and were escorted into a Spa/Salon:
ME: [to Karen] "Do you think they don't like our hair - is this a hint that they want us to try something different?"
Hair was out - nails were in. All 20 of them (nails, that is):
On to the next part of the day... a ride on the bikes around Lake Minnetonka:
If you look closely, you can see it's actually a picture of all four of us. I'm artistic like that, even if by accident.
After the bike ride came yet another surprise. Well, don't tell the guys this, but it wasn't actually a surprise, as RW left the website up on his our iPad a few days before, so we had sorta figured it out:
It was the fancy movie theater - the one where you can reserve VIP seating in comfy seats, and order lunch at this restaurant - they delivered our meals into the theater.
After an afternoon filled with Cowboys and Aliens , we headed back to our house. By this time, all of the excrutiating planning and execution had plum tuckered those boys out, and Nathan threw himself on the couch and went to sleep, and RW crept upstairs, hoping we wouldn't notice that he too, was going to take a nap. Realizing we were on our own for an hour or two, Karen and I suffered through some Dr Mario on the Wii. They should have just taken credit for this part of the day and acted like they planned it, as it was perfect for us!
On to the last part of The Grand Adventure.. dinner at Suzette's. Oh yum!! (the food, not the picture..as that would be weird on all levels):
At the close of the evening, Karen and I quickly decided that this was actually the 1st ANNUAL Grand Adventure planned by The Guys for The Girls. Is that so wrong? And were they to have given us those evaluation forms, they would have received high marks. Very high marks. Good job, guys.
